Gu Xiaojie Met with Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in House of Representatives Nnenna Ukeje

On February 9, Chinese Ambassador H.E. Gu Xiaojie met in Abuja with Hon. Nnenna Ukeje, the Chairperson of the Committee on Foreign Affairs in House of Representatives,  and exchanged views on bilateral relations and cooperation between legislative bodies of the two countries.

Gu Xiaojie pointed out that, legislative bodies of China and Nigeria play important roles in their respective national development, and should enhance exchanges and cooperation so as to promote the comprehensive development of bilateral relations. In September and December 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Nigerian President Buhari successfully in New York and Johannesburg respectively, and charted the new direction of the future development of China-Nigeria relations. This year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, both sides should take this opportunity to enhance high-level visit, earnestly put into practice the results of the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Johannesburg, promote comprehensive cooperation, and bring the bilateral relations to a new high.

Ukeje said that China is a valuable and strategic partner of Nigeria, the two countries enjoy longstanding friendship, and frequent and productive exchanges between legislative bodies. Nigeria is committed to promoting national development and diversification of economy.The House of Representatives of Nigeria is willing to work with its Chinese counterpart to provide legislative support for bilateral pragmatic cooperation in infrastructure, trade, investment and other areas, thus bringing benefits to their peoples.
