Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China met with President Obasanjo of Nigeria

On October 6 and 7, 2006, Mr. Zhai Jun, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of China and Secretary General of the Preparatory Committee of the Beijing Summit and the 3rd Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, paid an official visit to Nigeria. Mr. Zhai was received by H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, President of Nigeria, at President's farm in Otta, Ogun State, accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Xu Jianguo.

Mr. Zhai conveyed the warm greetings of H.E. Mr. Hu Jintao, President of China, to President Obasanjo. On behalf of the Chinese government, Zhai warmly invited the Nigerian President to attend the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which is to be held early November in China. Zhai said that the Chinese leaders were expecting all the Heads of States of African countries at Beijing Summit to have a thorough exchange of ideas on the blue print of the future of China-Africa friendly relations.

President Obasanjo asked the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs to transmit his goodwill message to President Hu Jintao. Obasanjo agreed that he would attend the Beijing Summit, in spite of his busy schedule in November.
