| Ambassador Wang Yongqiu Hosts Farewell Reception in Nigeria | ||||||

Mr. Wang Yongqiu, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, and Mrs. Wang hosted a farewell reception in Abuja, Nigeria on July 27, 2006. Mr. Olusegun Obasanjo, President of Nigeria, represented by Mr. Abubakar Tanko, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Mantu, Deputy Senate President, among other high-rank officials, diplomatic crops, representatives of local Chinese community and Chinese companies, and the embassy staff totaling around 250 persons attended the reception. Some of the guests hailed hundred miles away from other states of the country.
Ambassador Wang said in his speech that he was very happy to see that China and Nigeria, in his tenure of 3 years, achieved remarkable progress in the continued development of friendly relations and cooperation, two countries' Presidents, Leader of Legislatures and Foreign Ministers exchanged visits successfully, and the China-Nigeria Strategic Partnership was established, which is bound to serve as a solid foundation of greater development of the bilateral relations in the years to come. The ambassador extended his sincerest thanks to the Nigerian government and his friends in all walks of life in Nigeria, and wished the Sino-Nigeria friendship an ever-lasting life.
Mr. Tanko, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, representing President Obasanjo, highly appraised the fantastic contributions Ambassador Wang made to the development of the bilateral relations, and presented, in the name of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the most heart-felt greeting and the best wish to the ambassador. Mr. Ibrahim Mantu, Deputy Senate President, said that Ambassador Wang not only helped greatly in deepening the political mutual trust between the two countries, but also in promoting the bilateral economic and trade cooperation with a very remarkable results. Hearing the ambassador is leaving Nigeria, every Nigerians should miss the ambassador, and he himself is the one who will definitely miss the ambassador very much.
Mr. Umpa, Dean of the diplomatic crops and Ambassador of the Philippines, on behalf on the whole diplomatic crops, bid farewell and presented a special gift to Ambassador Wang as a token of appreciation of his great performance in Nigeria. A teenager chorus from the Government Secondary School, Garki performed a Chinese song and a Nigerian song as a gift to Ambassador Wang, Mrs. Wang and all the distinguished guests. The outgoing ambassador plans to leave Abuja early August, 2006. |
